About the Rabbi
Rabbi Dov Hillel Klein hails from Chicago, birthed and bred in its vibrant culture and community. Notably, he was directed by the Lubavitcher Rebbe himself to move to Evanston in 1985. This move marked a pivotal point in Klein's career and personal life. He isn't your average religious leader - Dov Hillel Klein is an unusually dynamic, interesting, and multifaceted person, recognized by many as a “Chassidic Renaissance Man”.
Since his relocation to Evanston in 1985, Klein has held the position of Executive Director of Chabad of Evanston. This role allowed him to serve not only the city of Evanston but also the Northwestern University community. He stands as a pioneer in the formation of Chabad on Campus, an initiative that took flight when he extended his ministry to the students at Northwestern University.
Beyond his executive duties, Klein is also a highly sought-after speaker. He has lectured throughout the world, sharing his wisdom and insights, and his local courses are perennially full. Aside from his work within the religious and educational spheres, Rabbi Klein served in a critical role as a chaplain and first responder for the Evanston Police Department. His duties ranged from crisis intervention to suicide prevention, post-traumatic stress syndrome assistance, hostage negotiations, burnout management, and death notification.
Because of his impressive versatility, Klein has advanced training in a multitude of areas, earning him the affectionate nickname “RabbiCop”. This nickname is a testament to his invaluable work with Police Officers and the Citizens of Evanston. Besides his work within the community and the police force, Rabbi Klein is a brother of the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity, where he serves as its International Rabbi.
A fervent lover of Israel, Rabbi Klein has led over 50 groups on enlightening trips to the heart of the Jewish homeland. In February 2020, Klein received an esteemed accolade: his credentials as a Holocaust Educator from the world-renowned Holocaust Studies Department of Yad V'shem in Jerusalem, Israel.
But above all his professional achievements, Rabbi Klein is best known for his approachable, warm, and sensitive nature. He has mentored and advised thousands of people throughout the years, making a significant impact on countless lives. His guidance, paired with his remarkable empathy, has made him a beacon of support for many.
